Who Works the Rivers Event

February 10, 2023 @ 9:30 am - 2:15 pm

who works the river

RiverWorks Discovery welcomes Vicksburg area high school juniors and seniors to explore careers along the river through engaging activities like line throwing and exploring the interactive stations on a retired towboat. School buses from five Vicksburg area schools will transport approximately 170 students to a river of possibilities. The presenters encourage students to come away with an understanding and interest in the vital part the rivers contribute to the nation. The interactive presenters gives students the valuable chance to meet real mariners, stevedores, dispatchers, captains, and other careers that help power the world. There is so much to explore that it spills over to 3 locations.

At Hinds College, students will hear firsthand from maritime professionals about how the river industry contributes to the local economy as they tour the industrial maintenance and maritime training facilities. In addition to the fun demonstrations, RiverWorks Discovery will serve students a free lunch as they discover career options.
