Expect severe storms and flash floods through Wednesday night
The National Weather Service in Jackson is predicting severe storms for Central and South Mississippi through tonight.
Areas along and north of Interstate 20 could see quarter- to golfball-sized hail and damaging winds up to 60 mph. Tornadoes will be possible for areas south of I-20.
Locally heavy rainfall may cause flash flooding and renewed chances of river flooding across the saturated region; however, the NWS generally predicts less than one inch of rain for the Vicksburg area, although that amount could be higher.
Areas to the south and east, including Claiborne and Hinds counties, could see two to four inches of rain.
A flash flood watch is in effect for Adams, Claiborne, Clarke, Copiah, Covington, Forrest, Franklin, Hinds, Jasper, Jefferson, Jefferson Davis, Jones, Kemper, Lamar, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Leake, Lincoln, Madison, Marion, Neshoba, Newton, Rankin, Scott, Simpson, Smith and Warren counties in Mississippi through late tonight.
