Faith delivers the King family and Boxdrop Mattress to Vicksburg

Michael King is from Pennsylvania and Nicole grew up in Georgia. They both attended Jackson College of Ministries in Jackson, Mississippi and met there in 1999.

How they ended up in Vicksburg is a journey of faith.

“We met at the Bible College. He was one year ahead of me, but that is where we met,” said King. “We married in 2001 and lived in the Jackson area working jobs we loved.”

After living in an apartment in Jackson for a couple of years they purchased a home in Pearl but were traveling at least 3 times a week to Vicksburg to attend their church, the First Pentecostal Church on Paxton Road.

“Reverend Don Tipton was the pastor. His parents lived in York, PA and attended the same church that Michael grew up in. So we attended there and were driving to Vicksburg three times a week,” said King. “We were considering moving to either Georgia or Pennsylvania, but we felt God directing us to commit to Vicksburg. We felt like we couldn’t really connect with Vicksburg the way that we wanted to because of living in the Jackson area. We prayed about it and decided not to just attend church in Vicksburg, but to make it our hometown.

Michael eventually was hired at Ergon Refining, and we purchased a house in Vicksburg. We felt a peace about being here and knew that we were in the will of God.”

Their firstborn, Aiden, was born in Vicksburg in 2009. Two years later, Dylan was born.

As the kids got a little older and started school, Nicole and Michael started chasing their dream of being business owners.

“We were looking for an opportunity and we wanted to be business owners in our hometown of Vicksburg,” explained Nicole. “Good friends of ours had opened a BoxDrop Mattress store in South Carolina. We did our due diligence and saw that it would be a good opportunity and fit for Vicksburg. Being a locally owned, small business, BoxDrop Mattress Vicksburg has low overhead and no full-time employees so we don’t have to mark up our mattresses 400% like big retail stores. That is what separates us from the big retail stores.”

Nicole goes on to say, “Low overhead means more savings for you. All of our mattresses are brand new in the original plastic from the manufacturer. We offer everything from economy mattresses to luxury mattresses. We try to have something for everybody and offer a delivery service as well.”

“A lot of people can afford our mattresses and pay cash because they’re so affordable,” said Nicole. “But there are also a lot of people who prefer to finance so we offer several different financing options for people with all types of credit. Some of those options even include 6 months to 18 months with no interest. If you want or need a new mattress we can almost always figure out a way to get you one.”
