Fallen tree devastates home on Longwood Drive

Garland Cary and his wife, Linda, had an unexpected encounter with a tree that crashed into their Longwood Drive home around 9 a.m. Wednesday morning.

“The sound was like lightening had hit down on top of the house,” Cary said. “It was like a big crackle.”

Garland Cary was sitting in the living room and his wife was in the back bedroom when the tree came down.

“I’ve been hit. I’ve been hit,” Garland heard Linda cry out.

Garland administered to his wife until help arrived.

The Carys have lived in the house for 35 years, since 1985. Both escaped from the house. Linda Cary was transported to the hospital with a head injury.

The tree appeared hollowed out with rot.
