Fatal crash on Highway 3

UPDATE: The driver of the log truck has been identified as Patrick Crogier 53, of Jackson, Mississippi.
Original story: One individual has tragically lost their life following a hit-and-run on State Highway 3 at the north entrance to the International Paper plant.
A pickup truck was struck by an 18-wheeler log truck which then fled the scene. The impact was so severe that the log truck lost two axles, a total of eight tires, in the collision. The log truck then fled north on Highway 3, leaving a trail of sparks behind him and running several other vehicles off the roadway. An eyewitness followed the log truck at a safe distance while communicating with law enforcement.
The driver of the log truck was quickly apprehended by Yazoo County Sheriff’s Deputies and Mississippi Highway Patrol officers near Satartia. The Mississippi Highway Patrol is actively investigating the incident, including an accident reconstruction team.
Half a dozen Mississippi Highway Patrol officers are on the scene as well as officials with the Warren County Sheriff’s Office; the Vicksburg Fire Department, including Deputy Chief Trey Martin and Battalion Chief Henry Williams; and the Warren County Fire Department, including Fire Coordinator Jerry Briggs and Northeast Fire Chief Shane Garrard, rescue, a fire medic unit and Engine 503.
Warren County Coroner Doug Husky pronounced the driver of the pickup deceased at the scene. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of family members.
