Fifth annual Spooky Sprint in Vicksburg
October is a month dedicated to candy corn, eerie night skies and all things spooky. In honor of the spooky season, Vicksburg Catholic Schools will be hosting the fifth annual Spooky Sprint Oct. 26 starting at 8 a.m. at 1900 Grove St.
With over 600 registrants at the event last year, the Vicksburg Catholic Schools hope to break their attendance record at this year’s sprint.
“Last year this event was the largest 5K in the state of Mississippi,” said Kristi Smith, Vicksburg Catholic School development director. “We partner with the Mississippi Track Club, so we have registrants from all around the state. These are not just Vicksburg folks and they aren’t just Vicksburg Catholic School folks.”
All runners and walkers are encouraged to wear costumes during the 5k.
The event invites Vicksburg residents to give back to the community.
“It’s one of the largest fundraisers,” Smith said. “All of the proceeds go to support the children of the Vicksburg Catholic Schools.”
In addition to the 5K run, there will also be a 1-mile Fun Run.Â
“Everyone comes. It’s just a great event,” Smith said. “There’s a carnival after the run. We have all kinds of kids games, beverages are served … It’s just a great family, fun event.”
Registration is $35 for 5K walkers and runners and $20 for the fun run.

“It’s a great time of year. It’s cool outside, and this is just a great way to get out and support the community,” Smith said.Â
