Fire at Parkwood South apartments on Christmas Eve

A family’s apartment sustained significant damage this Christmas Eve at Parkwood South Apartments on Bazinsky Road.

Vicksburg Fire Chief Craig Danczyk was first to arrive on scene, where a ground level unit was emitting smoke and flames.  After verifying that everyone was out of the building safely, Danczyk immediately began fighting the fire from the doorway as the team on Engine 2 got into their turnouts and equipment needed to enter the home.

Reinforcements arrived quickly, with Engine 8, Ladder 3, Battalion 1 Tim Love and multiple Vicksburg Police officers responding to render aid as well as Rescue.

No one was injured in the blaze and the fire was able to be contained to the single unit.

It is believed that the fire began in the kitchen, although the department’s investigation is still underway.
