Firefighters called to ERDC

Published

on

At 6:23 p.m. firefighters were dispatched to ERDC after an employee smelled smoke in their building.

Fire Chief Craig Danczyk was close to the area and was the first to arrive at ERDC, entering through the Bazinksky Road gate. Other units soon arrived on the scene and drove to the structure, also entering via the Bazinsky Road gate.

Radio conversation indicated smoke was in the lower level of the building. Firefighters searched the building for smoke or flames. Once they were able to access the control panel they identified two rooms with an elevated temperature in them, rooms#277 and #1064.

Warren County firefighter Lee Williams was working at ERDC when the call came in. He assisted Vicksburg firefighters in the search for the cause of the smoke. Chief Danczyk, Engine 8, Battalion and Rescue also showed up to assist in the attempt.

At the time of this report units were still searching for the cause of the smoke.

Fire Chief Danczyk encourages you to call 911 when you smell smoke. “We would rather show up to 100 calls where we don’t find anything than to have that one that injures someone or worse. Call us when you smell smoke.”
