Flaggs puts curfew back in place

During a meeting of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen Thursday, Mayor George Flaggs Jr. announced he has signed an order to put the juvenile curfew back in place.

The curfew, which goes into effect immediately and runs through Monday, Oct. 5, will be for those 17 and under from 7:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.

“We’ve seen a temporary spike in juvenile crime,” said Flaggs, stating the reasoning for reinstating the curfew.

“One of the reasons for the juvenile curfew is to prevent the gatherings,” said City Attorney Nancy Thomas. “Exceptions are school functions.”

The Vicksburg Daily News will have more on this breaking news.
