Morning Star M.B. Church on Floweree Road is in danger of flooding once again just as it did last year.

“I feel like a balloon that someone let the air out of,” said Rev. Larry E. Williams as he watched the water surrounding the church and just inches from coming through the door.

Parishioners of the small church in northern Warren County have not been able to hold services in their church since last spring.

The Backwater Flood of 2019 did a lot of damage to the interior of the structure, and they’ve been working to fix the damage since then. Williams said the outpouring of love and support have been a tremendous blessing to his small congregation. The Baptists, Catholics and Methodists all offered help, he said.

He credited Jimmy and Stormy Deere with bringing attention to the plight of the Church. Jimmy Deere recently painted the exterior of the structure with donated materials. “I guess we’ll wash it down and give it a second coat,” if the church floods again, Deere told Williams.

Rev. Williams is a 66-year-old retired career military veteran. His spirit remains high for his church and the South Delta. He’s hopeful that the waters will recede and not completely ravage his small South Delta sanctuary again.
