Floyd Henry Coghlan Sr., ‘Son,’ 1927 – 2020

Mr. Floyd Henry Coghlan Sr., “Son,” 93, peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in his home, surrounded by family, Friday, Nov. 27, 2020. Born Aug. 18, 1927, Son was one of 8 children to Ethel Estelle Screws and Edgar Floyd Coghlan of Spanish Fort, Mississippi, (Holly Bluff) where Son was raised and spent the majority of his life as a Delta farmer (Coghlan & Sons Farm). Prior to farming, Son also worked in oil fields in Texas and Mississippi and was employed at Mississippi Chemical in Yazoo City.

While working oil fields in Laurel, Mississippi, Son met his loving wife, Ozzie Coghlan (married 1956), with whom he loved and raised five children, later blessed with 15 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. A Korean War Veteran, Son served his country proudly in the U.S. Army.

Known affectionately by his family as “Pawpaw,” Son was an avid fishermen and hunter, gardener and even mud-truck racer. He enjoyed spending time with his family and employees on the farm and sharing his love of the great outdoors.

Son was preceded in death by his daughter Deborah Carter and grandson Dudley Carter; brother Jean Coghlan; sisters Clara Mae Screws, Louise Templeton, Ethel Cliburn and Geneva Millwood.

Son is survived by his wife Ozzie (Lampkin) Coghlan; children Charles Graham (Kathy), Sandra Coghlan Coleman, Henry Coghlan (Yolanda), Ike Coghlan (Angie); grandchildren  Jeanna Wood, Abby McPhail and Brelan Yelverton, Kallie Ketchum and Billy Carter, Jay Coleman and Deborah Luke, Navy Lt. Cmdr. Crystal Massey and Floyd Coghlan, Megan Coghlan, Blake Coghlan, Alex Madesclaire, Taylor Dean and Katie Dean; great grandchildren Hanna Cearnel, Thadius Cearnel, Tucker Wood, Mason Wood, Sarah Kate Mcphail, Brantley Yelverton and Turner Yelverton, Coleman Miller, Jodi Luke and Breanna Luke, John Hagen Ketchum, Carter Ketchum and Maizey Ketchum, Carson Massey, Carolina Massey and Caleb Massey, and Lawson Hogue; sisters Mary Dorris and Sylvia Coghlan. Son is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of family and friends.

Services are postponed until further notice due to COVID-19 precautions. The family is requesting donations in Son’s memory to Holly Bluff Baptist Church.
