Former Alcorn coach receives contract extension at FAMU

Former Alcorn State University football coach Willie Simmons has received a contract extension as Florida A&M University head coach.

Simmons’ contract extension, made public on Thursday, will extend through the 2025 football season.

“The past year has been filled with uncertainty and our coaches have demonstrated the highest levels of leadership and stability as we lead our programs into the Southwestern Athletic Conference,” said Gosha.

“We are excited about trajectory of our programs and it was important that we maintained elite coaches to ensured that continuity. I am grateful to President Robinson, Board of Trustees, and Foundation Board for their unwavering support.”

Simmons led FAMU to a 9-2 season in 2019 after their previous 6-5 season in 2018.

Simmons was Alcorn’s offensive coordinator from 2012-2014, where he led the Braves to a SWAC Championship in his final season.
