Former Auburn coach Pat Dye dies at 80

Legendary college football coach Pat Dye died Monday from kidney failure at the age of 80.
Dye was the head football coach at Auburn University in Alabama from 1981 to 1992 where he found much success with the Tigers. Dye has been hospitalized in recent weeks for complications regarding his kidney functions. He also tested positive for COVID-19 last month.
“Coach Dye was a great man, and he did so much for Auburn and Auburn football,” said Benji Roland, one of the All-Americans who played for Dye at Auburn, in a statement. “He will be missed.”
Dye’s head coaching record was 99-39-4, which is the second-most wins for a Auburn head coach. He led Auburn to Southeastern Conference championships in 1983, 1987, 1988 and 1989, and he is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame.
Dye was also the coach at East Carolina and Wyoming before moving to Auburn in 1981. He was Auburn’s athletic director from 1981-1992.
