Former Vicksburg High School star football player Derrick Watson has been hired as the cornerbacks coach at St. Aloysius High School.

Watson graduated from VHS in 1995. During his 1994 senior season, he helped the Gators to an 8-4 record, and then went on to star at Jackson State University. He is no stranger to hard work. Watson was a walk-on at JSU and earned the starting spot. In 2002, he was one of the best cornerbacks in SWAC football. He was also a track star who ran the 40 yard dash in 4.4 seconds. He used his speed to help him dominate on the football field and secure a starting spot at JSU.

After Watson graduated from JSU, he went on to play in both the Arena Football League and the Canadian Football League. Watson joined the Flashes staff in June after spending a few years coaching at Vicksburg High School where he helped many athletes gain scholarships to play on the next level.

He is now passing his knowledge to the athletes at St. Al who are preparing for their upcoming season.

Adding Watson to the staff is a big deal for the Flashes who are under the leadership of new head coach Stacy Sizemore.

Watson will help lead the flashes secondary tonight as St. Al travels to face Brookhaven Academy in a scrimmage at 6 p.m.
