Former Vicksburg High School quarterback Joe Johnson Jr. has made a football comeback after suffering an injury before his freshman year at Coahoma Community College in 2018.

After defeating the competition in his 2015 sophomore year, Johnson became the starting quarterback for the Gators. Johnson had a breakout season at VHS in 2016 when he led the Gators to a 9-4 record while throwing for 3,010 yards and 31 touchdowns.

In 2018, Johnson committed to Coahoma Community College to fight for the quarterback spot but he fell to an injury before his freshman season started, forced him to be redshirted. While sitting out the 2018 season, Johnson worked hard with extra training  to come back strong for the next season.

Johnson received plenty of playing time in 2019 as a key player in Coahoma’s offense. One of Johnson’s highlights this season was a 95-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Sammy Carter against East Mississippi Community College.

Johnson finished the season with eight touchdowns and three interceptions to help Coahoma finish out the year.

Johnson is now preparing for his sophomore season this fall where he will likely be named the starter. He’s ready to lead his team in the right direction just as he did as a Gator at VHS.
