State Rep. Robert Foster, the third-place finisher in last Tuesday’s GOP gubernatorial primary, announced this week that he is endorsing former Mississippi Supreme Court Justice William “Bill” Waller Jr. in the runoff for the Republican nomination for Mississippi governor.

Waller will face Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves in the August 27 runoff. The winner of that race will face Democratic Party nominee Jim Hood, the state’s long-time attorney general.

In the August 6 GOP primary, Reeves received 49 percent of the vote, Waller 33 percent and Foster 18 percent. Because no candidate reached the required 50-percent-plus-one-vote threshold, the top two vote recipients enter a runoff.
