Four injured in head on collision on Oak Ridge Road

Four people were injured following a head-on collision on Oak Ridge Road.

Around 7:15 p.m., a motor vehicle crash took place in the 300 block of Oakridge Road off of 61 North, about 100 yards east of the Gibson Memorial Church.

A truck and an SUV were involved in the collision.

2 people were trapped in their vehicles, the driver of the truck and the passenger of the SUV. Hydraulic expanders(the “Jaws of Life”) were used to pop the doors open so the injured could be removed from their vehicles. Two people with serious injuries were transported to UMMC in Jackson and the other two injured parties were sent to Merit Health River Region.

Oak Ridge Road was shut down for an hour as rescue crews worked to free the entrapped and allow time for first responders to clear the accident scene.

Firefighters from Culkin, Lamar Frederick and Cedric Martin, along with Chuck Tate, FireBoss Jerry Briggs, Deputy Fire Chief Trey Martin, several FireMedic units, Rescue and multiple Sheriff’s Deputies worked the accident. Assisting at the scene was State Trooper Master Sergeant Kervin Stewart, who was in the vicinity of the accident when it occurred.
