“Free fishing” this weekend
The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks is celebrating National Fishing and Boating week by offering the public the benefit of fishing without a license this weekend; Saturday, June 5 and Sunday, June 6. This means that the public may fish in public waters without a license and fees and permits are waived at state parks.
July 4 has been designated as a “free fishing” day also, however the requirements to pay fees will be enforced at state operated lakes and waterways.
Persons 16 and older are required under Mississippi statute to have a fishing license for any property that is not on private property. Licenses can be purchased online and various applicable regulations can be viewed by visiting the MDWFP website at www.MDWFP.com or calling 601-432-2400.
