Full Moon this Friday the 13th

Published

on

A full moon will appear in the sky this month on Friday the 13th.

Having a full moon coincide with the supposedly unlucky day in the U.S. is super rare. There hasn’t been a nationwide Friday the 13th full moon since Oct. 13, 2000, and it won’t happen again until Aug. 13, 2049.

The moon will be full before midnight on Friday, Sept. 13, but it will appear full from Thursday night through Sunday morning.

This weekend’s full moon is the closest to the autumnal equinox on Sept. 23, when the length of the day and night are nearly equal, making it the Harvest Moon.
