Bad weather made Vicksburg High School’s scrimmage against Terry come to a quick end with both varsity teams remaing scoreless after one drive.

The Gators’ junior varsity team took the field first and quickly got on the board after a 90 yard interception return by Maurice Taylor. Just a few plays later, Bobby Taylor would score on a 30 yard run.

The JV team didn’t hesitate to prove that they came to play after continuing to destroy the Bulldogs with their run game. Clifton Walker and Cedric Blackmore would both find themselves getting touchdown runs but they were called back for penalties.

Mincer Minor IV wrapped things up for the JV by scoring two running touchdowns from 30 and 25 yards out to help lead VHS to a 24-0 win.

“I was really happy about my jv because they kept Terry out of the endzone and they dominated on both sides of the ball,” Head Coach Todd McDaniel said.

The Varsity Gators took the field on defense first while only allowing the Bulldogs to get one first down. Caleb Bryant refused to be blocked and picked up a few tackles in the backfield.

Offensively, VHS picked up a few first downs as Collin Johnson broke free a couple of times. Blackmore also picked up a first down for the Gators as the game was eventually called off due to the lightning.

”This is just a continuation of what we’re doing and we had a great spring with the upcoming ninth graders and we all did extremely well before the lightning,” McDaniel said.

Spring ball is officially over and VHS will soon be gearing up to prepare for the Fall.

“June 2 we will be in the weight room and gearing up  to prepare for the Red Carpet Bowl, ”

Many college scouts were also on the sidelines viewing the VHS athletes including Tulane, Memphis, Mississippi State, and LA Tech.

“It’s awesome having a sideline full of those scouts looking at your kids and they’re getting the opportunity to play on the next level.”
