The Vicksburg High School boy’s basketball team took down Germantown 63-49 on Thursday.

“I thought we came out with a lot of energy in the first half but we sort of became content with just having a lead,” Head Coach Kelvin Carter said. Overall I think it was a good first game that we can build from. We must play better moving forward.”

The Gators quickly took a 19-3 first quarter lead as Markel Derby and Malik Franklin knocked down buckets. By halftime VHS extended their lead to 27-17.

The second half all belonged to the Gators as Davian Williams and Derby continued to show out for VHS as they took home the easy win.

Derby finished with 14 points and Williams added 11 on the board. Franklin led the Gators with 16 points while Kealon Bass and Jaylin Jackson both scored seven. Khalib Minor also contributed five points.

The Missy Gators fell short of a win against Germantown in a 63-44 loss. Janiah Caples and Layla Carter scored nine points and Kierra James scored eight on the night.
