Monday, the Vicksburg Board of Mayor and Alderman appointed Margaret Gilmer to the Warren County Port Commission.

She will serve out the remainder of Austin Golding’s term. Golding resigned Friday citing business and a growing family as a reason for vacating the post.

Gilmer previously served on the commission from 2016 through 2019 as an appointee of the Warren County Board of Supervisors. She served as chairwoman during much of that tenure.

“I am excited and honored that the city chose me for this position,” Gilmer said. “I hope to see many of the things we had been working on come to fruition.”

Port Commission Chairman Don Brown said he was “elated at the news. She brings so much knowledge to commission.”

Gilmer’s returning to the commission will be a huge asset to helping recruit business and industry, added Vicksburg-Warren Partnership President and CEO Pablo Diaz.

The commission is made up of two appointees from the city, Brown and Gilmer; two appointees from the Warren County Board of Supervisors, Maurice Winston and Louis Lambiotte; and Mike Roach, appointed by the governor.

Gilmer will serve the remainder of Golding’s term through 2023.
