A gofundme campaign has been set up by the family of 15-year-old Jeremiah “Scooby” Howard, Jr. to help cover funeral expenses.

“The family is struggling to find the resources to cover his funeral expenses. Therefore, we’re appealing to you for any contribution you can make. No amount is too small. Thanks in advance for your prayers, love, and support as we prepare to lay Scooby to rest.”

Howard was shot and killed on Monday morning after a vehicle chase and shooting along Highway 18 in Claiborne County.

An incident that started at the Citgo at the intersection of Highway 61 and Highway 18 escalated. Reports state one group got in a car to leave and began to be chased by others in another vehicle. The chase continued east on Highway 18 with the second car in pursuit firing at the first vehicle, according to a witness.

The chase ended around Port Gibson High School where Howard was shot. He was taken by private vehicle to the hospital but died shortly after.

The Claiborne County Sheriff Department quickly arrested several suspects in relation to the event.

“During our investigation, within an hour we were able to bring in several individuals for questioning,” said a statement by the department.

Maliek Gardner (21 years of age), Justin Thomas (19 years of age), TeLen Guinn (18 years of age), and Ajavion Anderson (21 years of age), were all charged with one count each of murder and one count each of attempted murder.
