Gold in the Hills has Successful Opening Weekend for 75th Spring Season

Gold in the Hills this past Friday night. The play, also known as “The Dead Sister’s Secret,” has been performed here in Vicksburg since March 28, 1936. Gold in the Hills is in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s longest running melodrama, and the entirety of that run has been here in Vicksburg. We know that many of you have seen the play, but there are a great number of Vicksburg area residents who have not, and this season is the perfect opportunity to get out and experience the play for yourselves. Set in the 1890s, Gold in the Hills features a relentless hero, a winsome heroine, a ruthless villain, and the wilder side of city life in the infamous New York Bowery. It’s simply good, wholesome, family-oriented fun and is a must-see for everyone who lives in this area. Many of the cast members have been performing their parts for years. Some have grown up on the stage, playing different parts as they have grown older. Every performance of the play has it’s own life and can vary greatly from other performances. The story remains in-tact but There have been thousands and thousands of people who have flocked to Vicksburg to see this play each and every year. Hopefully, this year will be no different. The play resumes it’s run this Friday evening. Catch performances Friday & Saturday, March 18-19, & 25-26, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. There will be a special showing of the play on Monday, March 28, 2011 to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the first performance. The curtain rises on the special performance at 6:30 p.m. The VTG is asking that every able-bodied cast member, past and present, come to the March 28th showing and join in the celebration!
