Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves released a statement in regards to the rejection of the Yazoo Pump Project on Wednesday.

“It seems like every day, the Biden Administration finds a new way to fail Mississippians,” said Governor Tate Reeves. “The Trump Administration’s Environmental Protection Agency realized the importance of protecting the Mississippi Delta and its residents when they allowed this project to proceed. Instead, President Biden is choosing to put radical ‘environmentalists’ ahead of human lives and livelihoods. My administration will fight this decision and stop at nothing until this project gets done.”

The Clean Water Act veto was restored on Wednesday by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency which would have prevented backwater flooding in the Mississippi Delta.

The EPA’s decision to restore the veto nullifies the EPA’s earlier decision which would allow the pumps, which are designed to keep backwater levels stable and protect thousands of acres of farmland during flooding. The project met with resistance from environmental groups, citing the potential impact on the Delta wetlands.
