Grammar Street fire was probably electrical

Homeowner Claudia Hudson is comforted by Fire Chief Craig Danczyk at her Grammar Street home.

Although it is too early for a conclusive assessment, the Grammar Street fire that displaced Vicksburg resident Claudia Hudson was most likely electrical in nature.

Engine 6 dispatched from the Central Fire Station shortly after the call went out at 4:44 p.m. Friday.  They traveled the short few blocks to the location and were able to immediately put some water on the main fire area. Rescue and Engine 7, along with Chief Craig Danczyk and Battalion Chief Tim Love, were also there to fight the fire.

Chief Danczyk killed electrical power to the structure and firefighters were able to quickly beat down the bulk of the fire after that.

The fire was in the rafters at one point and that took an extra amount of time to extinguish.

The quick response from the Vicksburg Fire Department saved the structure from being totally engulfed and a complete loss.

Units with the Vicksburg Police Department were also on the scene to keep onlookers a safe distance from the fire. Onlookers are always an issue and don’t always understand an electrical wire may drop or a container may explode.

At 6:47 p.m. the last unit left the scene of the fire on Grammar.
