Green Named VDN’s Junior High Coach of the Year
Vicksburg, Miss.-For the third consecutive season, Louis Green won the VDN “Coach Chip Award” which represents the Junior High Coach of the Year. Green is the Warren Central Junior High School Head Football Coach who reached a milestone in 2024 by leading the Vikings to an undefeated season where they won the Little Six Championship.
“I can proudly say that this is one of our most memorable seasons not just because of wins and championships but just to see how the kids fought during the year and never gave up was special to witness,” Green said.
Although WCJHS went undefeated, they had to work hard for most of those wins, including those against Vicksburg Junior High and Germantown which were 1-score victories. Under Green’s leadership, the Vikings pushed through and found themselves reaching the title game after defeating VJHS.
In the final game of the year, Green and WCJHS proved why they were No. 1 as they took down Brandon 26-7.
“They policed each other very well and the whole team was held together by a common thread and that was to win a championship,” Green added. “Our Championship wasn’t won in the game, it was won in the summer because they showed up every day and they were happy to be there.”
Although Green is the face of the success, he gave much credit to his assistant coaches Eric Lawson, Charles Swartz, Gage Quimby, and Victor Tyrone.
“A Head Coach is as only as good as his assistant coaches and this season just goes to show how hard everyone worked this year.
Overall, WCJHS averaged 27 points per game and only allowed nine points, defensively.
Green first won this award in 2022 when the Vikings went 4-1. A year later he led the team to a 6-1 season which was followed by the 2024 Championship year(7-0).
“It’s a tremendous thing but just because I’m the Head Coach it doesn’t mean I do everything myself because the other coaches and players played a huge part.”
