Grove Street Fires Under Investigation

Published

on

Vicksburg investigators say they suspect arson in the Grove Street fires over the Memorial Day weekend.

Firefighters responded to three fires that weekend, all of a suspicious nature, in a one block area bounded by 4th North Street, Grove Street, Jackson Street and 5th North Street.

Firefighters work in the summer heat to beat a fire at 1711 Grove Street on May 25th.

Firefighters risked their lives to extinguish the fires.

3 fires, 1711 Grove (1), 1803 Grove (2) and 1702 (3) Jackson are related.

Two firefighters received injuries that were not life-threatening. One injury to the hand of a firefighter at the 1803 Grove fire led to the firefighter losing work days. Two of the fires, 1803 Grove and 1702 Jackson, were caught early and extinguished quickly. The third, at 1711 Grove, became a raging inferno causing a complete loss of the building.

Ladder 1 pumps water onto the inferno at 1711 Grove Street May 25th.

Authorities with the investigating agencies say they may file charges as they gather more evidence.
