The first of what could be several debates for Mississippi’s major gubernatorial candidates is scheduled for Oct. 10.

Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood, a Democrat, will face Republican Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves on the stage at the University of Southern Mississippi on Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m.

Moderators are WJTV’s Byron Brown and Greg Hurst of WREG in Memphis.

Each candidate will have 60 seconds to answer direct questions and 30 seconds to rebut, refute or clarify any statements made by his opponent.

Tickets are not available to the general public; however, USM will set aside its third-floor ballroom in the Cochran Center for the public to watch the debate streamed live.

Mississippians will have several other options to watch or listen. TV stations broadcasting the debate include WJTV in Jackson, WHLT in Hattiesburg, KZUP in Baton Rouge, La., WREG in Memphis, Tenn., WFNA in Mobile, Ala., WTVA in Tupelo and WXXV in Gulfport. Radio coverage includes SuperTalk, Mississippi Public Broadcasting and Jackson State University. On the internet, the debate will be streamed live-on WJTV.com.
