The Gulf South Conference has officially postponed all fall sports including football season due to the rising numbers of COVID-19 cases.

The announcement to delay the season came Thursday after the GSC Board of Directors approved teams to begin playing at the end of September or the first week of October.

The GSC delay will affect Mississippi College, a member of the conference.

MC head coach John Bland is concerned about getting his team in shape safely.

“Make sure that we have time to get them in shape and being conditioned because the COVID-19 is dangerous, but heat stroke is dangerous, too,” Bland said to WJTV. “Being out of shape is dangerous and not being able to learn how to tackle correctly.”

Not only will football be affected by this decision, but all 2020 fall sports have been delayed which is causing teams to start their seasons much later than expected.
