Devonta Harris, 17, had his initial appearance in Vicksburg Municipal Court late Wednesday evening, Aug. 5.

Harris was charged as an adult with one count of armed carjacking and one count of possession of a stolen firearm in connection with an incident that occurred Wednesday where a man reported  that two black males had attempted to steal his truck at gunpoint.

Harris’ companion was released without being charged.

Judge Angela Carpenter set Harris’ bond at $50,000 on the carjacking charge and $20,000 on the weapons charge and bound him over to the Warren County grand jury.

In a related incident, officers responded to a residence in the 100 block of Signal Hill Drive Wednesday at 2:14 p.m. in reference to a report of a stolen firearm. The victim stated someone broke into his vehicle on Lakehill Drive earlier that day and stole a Taurus PT24/7 pistol.

Harris is alleged to have used that pistol in the attempted carjacking on Wisconsin Avenue.
