Helen Henley, 1935 – 2021

Helen Henley passed away on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at her home surrounded by family and friends.  She was 85.

Helen was a great bowler and bowled up to the day that she found out that she had cancer.  She and Mary Helen had bowled for 40 years and loved every minute of it.  If there was a tournament they were there.  They bowled for 35 years in the Ladies National Bowling Tournaments all over the United States.

Helen also owned Griffith Florist for over 35 years.  Anyone that knew her would say that she loved her bowling and her beloved dogs.  She also enjoyed working in the yard gardening, crocheting, quilting and collecting red birds.  She was a lifetime member of Crossway Baptist Church, formerly Bowmar Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her children, Joey Henley, Ina Kessler and Parsha Metzenberg; by her father Lyman Wilson Heggins and her mother, Ina Mae Heggins and many siblings.

Helen is survived by her life companion of 52 years, Mary Helen Ameen; grandchildren, Michael Terry (Dana) of Texas and Robbie Metzenberg of Vicksburg, Mandy Jones (Lloyd) of Mississippi and Jamie Metzenberg of Texas; great-grandchildren, Mariah Terry of Florida, Blake Terry of Texas and Lloyd Jones, Jr..; one brother, Billy Heggins of Tennessee and one sister, Ancie Greer; also a special daughter Cydnie Ramsey-Rowe and numerious nieces ad nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 18, 2021 at Glenwood Funeral Home with Rev. Terry White officiating.  Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of the service.  Burial will follow in Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Cliff Ferrell, Donnie Heggins, Billy Joe Heggins, Lloyd Jones, Lyman Greer, Mitchell Greer and S. J. Ramsey.  Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Paul Pierce, III, Cliff Ferrell, Greg Luke, Ron Raggio, Ed Clark, Dan Davis, Mary Robertson, Mary Lynch, Shirley Savelle and Bertha James.

The family would like to thank Dr. Paul Pierce, III and the staff of Medical Associates, her hospice nurses and all her home health care nurses with Kindred and Encompass.
