Warren Central High School track and field star Jonathan Henderson is now a state champion after placing first in the 6A high jump on Saturday at the state meet in Pearl.

“It means so much to me,” Henderson said. I’m truly blessed to come off an injury a few weeks ago, not even knowing if I will be able to jump in the south state meet. Man it’s unreal and I can’t even explain the feeling because it’s like no other,” he added.

“Knowing all the hard work I put in to get this chance means the world to me and I spent many nights praying but I can’t thank God enough for giving me this opportunity.”

Henderson jumped at six foot and eight inches to win the championship at the state meet under the leadership of head coach Corey Wilson Sr.

Earlier in the season, Henderson was ranked No.1 in the nation and he continued to beat out his competition every week as he now stands as a state champion.
