Man who evaded VPD and WCSO pursuits held on no-bond for prior Grand Jury indictment
A man who managed to evade two separate pursuits by local authorities is now in the custody of Warren County authorities.
On Apr. 28, Vicksburg police officers attempted to stop a pickup truck on Halls Ferry Road. The vehicle failed to yield to the lights and sirens. A chase ensued out of the city and into the county down Highway 80, at which point Warren County authorities joined the pursuit.
The pursuit continued into and through southwestern Hinds County before the chase was terminated on Old Port Gibson Road due to safety reasons. Prior to the termination of the chase, authorities were able to retrieve the tag number and identify the driver.
According to Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace, on June 7, a Warren County deputy sheriff spotted the vehicle and individual at a business on Tiffentown Road.
After an attempt to make contact, the vehicle fled, crossing a grass median and continued down Tiffentown Road. The pursuit once again led into Hinds County where the chase was terminated due to safety reasons.
The deputy was able to visually identify the driver, Herman D Turner, 44, of Benton as he was entering a different vehicle from the prior pursuit. Warrants were issued by the city and the county for both pursuits for felony fleeing.
According to Sheriff Pace, on July 7, Deputy Sheriff Jeff Merritt was contacted by Turner’s attorney and turned himself in that morning.
A routine NCIC check was performed on Turner as he was being booked into the Warren County Jail. The check revealed Turner had an outstanding Grand Jury indictment issued in October 2017 out of Harrison County for possession of a controlled substance.
Turner has a $2,500 bond for each of the two pursuits and a no-bond detainer placed on him for Harrison County. He is currently being held in Warren County.
