The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District is scheduled to reopen Hernando Point Campground at Arkabutla Lake on June 14.
Hernando Point Campground is a hardwood area offering a view of the lake. The campground is un a upland area located next to a day-use area. The campground offers access to a playground, pavilion, swimming area and other amenities to provide a memorable camping experience. Newly installed sewer hookups have been installed for each campsite during it’s closure.
By June 14, 35 campsites will be open to the public with the remaining sites to be open on July 1. Those seeking to reserve campsites can do so here.
Expect the recent rainfall and work in the area to leave the campground area grounds soft. Recent construction and rehabilitation took place to remove damaged trees and other debris from the area due to recent weather conditions. In January of 2020, the campground was closed due to an EF-1 tornado leaving damage within the area.
