Highway Patrol begins New Year’s Enforcement Period
Now is the time to find or volunteer to be a designated driver to get yourself and your loved ones home safely after New Year’s Eve festivities.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol will add troopers to ensure safety during its New Year’s Enforcement Period as it does every year and every holiday when large numbers of Mississippians will be on the roads. The period begins just after midnight tonight and ends Wednesday, Jan. 1 at midnight.
MHP’s “Home for the Holidays” safety initiative continues, urging safe and sober driving.
“No one should begin 2020 with being arrested, facing medical bills, legal fees, and perhaps losing their job,” MHP advises, adding that responsible decisions ensure safe travel and allow everyone to enjoy time with family and friends.
During the 2018 New Year’s Enforcement Period, MHP responded to 92 crashes that included five fatalities on Mississippi’s highways.
