Hinds Community College is among seven community colleges in Mississippi named to the Aspen Institute College Excellence Program’s list of Top 150 community colleges in the nation.

The 150 colleges are eligible to apply for the 2023 Aspen Prize, which is $1 million.

“I am so pleased that Hinds has been named among the 150 community colleges eligible to compete for this prestigious award,” said Hinds President Dr. Stephen Vacik. “Since coming to Hinds last year, pursuit of an Aspen Award certainly has been one of my aspirational goals for the institution. Excellence is included as one of the values of our institution. I am confident that our leadership team is committed to working toward meeting the standards of excellence required of this recognition so that one day rather than being among the best, we might achieve this highest honor.”

The Aspen Prize honors colleges every two years with outstanding achievement in five critical areas: teaching and learning, certificate and degree completion, transfer and bachelor’s attainment, workforce success, and equity for students of color and students from low-income backgrounds.
