A Hinds County cabin resident, his family and his pets have been rescued from the floodwaters of the Big Black River.

Stranded for about a week, Tony thought the rising water would pass. Instead, the water kept rising, and he ran out of provisions. This morning, he called for a rescue.

Hinds County Emergency Services put him, the cats, his mother and aunt in boats and ferried them to safety with just a handful of belongings. Shaken to the core as he stepped off the rescue boat, Tony couldn’t give his last name or the names of his four cats.
