Hinds County Sheriff upgrades Ebony Owens’ disappearance case to murder investigation
Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones has announced that the case into the disappearance of Ebony Owens, 36, has been updated to a murder investigation.
Owens died from at least one gunshot wound, according to a Facebook post by Jones on Thursday.
Owens’ husband, Michael Owens, 36, is currently in custody and is facing multiple charges related to the case. However, Ebony Owens’ body has not been located, prompting search and recovery efforts by authorities.
On Wednesday, a 2015 White Acura TXL, believed to be owned by Owens, was found burnt in the vicinity of Old Highway 80 and Jones Road in Hinds County. Later on, in a tweet, Sheriff Jones mentioned that the license plate was found in a nearby location and the search for Owens is currently ongoing.

The search is currently underway at the Big Black River on Old Hwy 80, between the Hinds and Warren County lines. Officials from the Mississippi Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, as well as the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, are assisting the Hinds County officials with the search.
