After being named Homecoming Queen on Friday at Forrest County Agricultural High School in Brooklyn, Miss., Nyla Covington removed her tiara and placed it on the head of classmate Brittany Walters, whose mother passed away from cancer just hours before the ceremony.

“Nyla Covington… your act of kindness, love and friendship was the most heartfelt thing I have seen in a long time at FCAHS. You always hear about Aggie Pride, but we actually saw it take place among our young people tonight,” Kari Keene Ryals posted on social media after the event.

“What we have witnessed is pure class,” Kristi Billiet Easterling said.
