A man checking on his father’s house in Vicksburg interrupted a burglary Monday morning

The homeowner’s son came to check on the house at 125 Grey Oaks Drive while his father was out of town and discovered an unknown vehicle in the driveway. As the son approached the house, the burglar immediately fled into the nearby woods.

The back door to the house had been kicked in, and one room was ransacked; however, it wasn’t immediately clear if anything was stolen.

The 911 call to report the burglary came to the Vicksburg Police Department at 11:42 a.m., said Deputy Chief Bobby Stewart.

Apparently, the house has been burglarized before.

The car in the driveway, a red Toyota Corolla, had been reported stolen earlier Monday morning. The owner said she had loaned the car to someone, and she reported it stolen when it was not returned.

Police recovered a microwave from the trunk of the car that did not belong to the homeowner or the vehicle owner.

A person of interest had been identified in the incident.
