Homicide on National Street

At 11:14 p.m. a call came in of shots fired in the 1100 block of National Street.

The first officer to arrive at the scene reported a person had been shot and to send an ambulance. Within minutes several officers had arrived on the scene and the street was blocked off. By the time the ambulance arrived shortly thereafter the victim had died.

Initial reports indicate a 20-year-old black male was sitting in the passenger seat of a gray Challenger when he was shot several times in the chest.

Coroner Dusk Huskey arrived at the incident and ordered the body to the crime lab in Jackson. The name of the victim is being withheld until all family members have been notified.
