Hostage standoff in Brandon claims the life of police officer and leaves another injured

A hostage situation in the Crossgates neighborhood in Brandon, MS, resulted in the loss of one police officer’s life and left another officer with significant injuries.

The deceased officer served in the Madison Police Department, while the injured officer belonged to the Brandon Police Department. Fortunately, the injured officer’s condition has stabilized.

The standoff happened at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Terrapin Hill Road, following a domestic dispute between a man and a woman. Upon the arrival of law enforcement, the man barricaded himself inside a location and took the woman hostage. After extensive negotiations spanning several hours, the suspect eventually agreed to release the hostage; however, he initially refused to surrender.

The first officer was shot around 6 a.m. during an exchange of gunfire. Then, around 9:30 a.m., the second officer was also shot during another round of gunfire. As a result, both officers suffered grave injuries, leading to the death of one and leaving the other officer in a critical condition.
