UPDATE
As of about 11:30 p.m. yesterday, one of the people previously reported missing was found dead, bringing the death toll to two. One person is still missing. Officials resumed their search this morning.
A Hard Rock Hotel under construction in New Orleans collapsed this morning killing at least two. One person remains missing.
The New Orleans Fire Department was on the scene on Canal Street at 9:12 a.m., shortly after the collapse, the Clarion Ledger reports. Eighteen workers were transported for medical treatment, all in stable condition. One other person refused transport. There are no reports of bystanders being hurt.
In a video provided to WWL-TV, the building’s frame fell several stories to the street. The top six to eight floors of the building were heavily damaged.
No cause for the collapse has been identified, and authorities say the building remains unstable.
