House votes to return nearly $11 million back to area counties, Warren major beneficiary

The Mississippi House adjourned on Tuesday, but not before voting to return nearly $11 million back to Warren, Yazoo, Issaquena and Sharkey Counties.

According to Representative Kevin Ford, the vote favored:

Warren County

  • $250,000 to the Bovina Volunteer Fire Department for acquisition and repair, renovation, furnishing and equipping of a building and related facilities.
  • $250,000 to the City of Vicksburg for the lighting of city baseball fields.
  • $75,000 for repairs to the Brunswick Circle Levee.
  • $650,000 for the costs of upgrades and improvements to the historic Old Courthouse and grounds.
  • $500,000 to the Warren County Port Commission for defraying expenses for environmental and permitting.
  • $3,500,000 to the City of Vicksburg for paying costs associated with river front development.

Yazoo County

  • $3,000,000 for costs associated with construction and repairs of the Lake George Bridge.
  • $100,000 for paying costs associated with renovations at the Oakes African-American Cultural Center.

Issaquena County

  • $1,500,000 for costs associated with the construction and repairs of the Mannie Road Bridge.

Sharkey County

  • $1,500,000 for paying the costs associated with the construction and repairs of the Low Water Bridge Road Bridge.
