Ida to make landfall on Sunday
Tropical Storm Ida is expected to make landfall sometime on Sunday night. Forecasters warn it could rapidly build strength to become one of the strongest storms for the Atlantic hurricane season.
The storm is expected to strengthen into hurricane status before making landfall along the Louisiana coast. According to NOAA, as of 7 a.m., the system is moving northwest at 15 miles per hour, with winds reaching a sustained speed of 60 miles per hour.
Current models put all of southeast Louisiana within the cone of the storm path. Ida could bring impacts from high winds, heavy rainfall and storm surge.
