Individual in custody after near head-on collision with WC deputy

One person has been taken into custody following a near-collision with a Warren County deputy.

At approx 12:44 p.m. Monday, Warren County Deputy Deputy David Culbertson driving eastbound on Clay Street when he observed a compact SUV, east of the Mission/Clay intersection, traveling at high rate of speed in his lane of traffic. Culbertson then took evasive action to avoid head on collision, hit his lights and turned around to pursue the vehicle.

As Culbertson approached the Mission/Clay intersection the vehicle was noticed to have made an attempt to turn into a parking lot and ran into a dirt embankment.

The individual, who’s name is not being released, was taken into custody.

Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace told the Vicksburg Daily News paramedics were called on scene to check on the driver and was found to not have been injured. He is currently being detained on traffic charges, but mental health may be a factor in this case.

“We are having him evaluated. He may be suffering from some mental health issue. If that’s what the evaluation shows then he will be transferred into a mental health facility,” said Pace. The sheriff went on to say the individual did not appear to be under the influence.
