Alabama authorities are searching for a missing Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office employee and a county inmate, who disappeared after leaving the jail on Friday morning.

Vicki White, the assistant director of corrections at LCSO, and Casey Cole White, an inmate charged with capital murder, were last seen around 9:41 a.m. departing the detention center.  Vicki was transporting Casey to the courthouse for a mental health evaluation, but they never arrived.

According to Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton, the pair are not related despite sharing a last name.

The vehicle that the officer and inmate left in was later found in the parking lot of a local shopping center.

In a press conference on Friday, Sheriff Singleton said that Assistant Director White had turned in her retirement notice just one day prior and that there is a chance that she helped the inmate escape, though no evidence to support that theory has been released.  Singleton also stated that she could obviously be in grave danger.

If anyone should spot one or both of them, contact 911 immediately and do not approach the subjects.

This is a developing story.  The Vicksburg Daily News will bring you more information as it becomes available.
