Inmate killed in riot at Chickasaw County prison

An inmate in the Chickasaw County Regional Correctional Facility is dead and two inmates are injured in the wake of a reported riot at the facility.

Chickasaw County Coroner Michael Fowler said that Gregory Emary, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene, WTVA reports. Emary was convicted in 2016 of burglary and was serving a 16-year sentence.

The injured inmates were taken to separate area medical facilities for treatment. Their conditions are unknown.

Emary is the third Mississippi inmate to die since Sunday in three separate incidents at three different prisons. Two of the inmates died after the Mississippi Department of Corrections put a lockdown into place for all state and private facilities on Monday.

A lockdown generally means inmates movements are restricted, often to the extent of locking them into their cells for most of the day.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating.
