Issaquena County jail to close Dec. 17
Issaquena County will be closing its jail in about two weeks.
The county Board of Supervisors voted Monday, Dec. 2, to close the jail in Mayersville because the facility has been a drain on the county, reports WAPT.
“We voted to close it effective Dec. 17 because of finances,” Eddie Holcomb, Issaquena Board of Supervisors President, told WAPT. “It is not viable, and we had to take this action.”
Jail employees will be paid for 30 days after the jail closes; however, other details are still being worked out, Holcomb said.
